Greetings to you from the Hollings Cancer Center at the Medical University of South Carolina! Since my appointment as Center Director in June 2004, I have worked with other cancer leaders at MUSC and elsewhere in South Carolina and across the country in pursuit of our goal of becoming an NCI-designated Cancer Center. I am determined our Center will lead our state at the cutting edge of cancer research and will provide all South Carolinians access to state-of-the-art cancer care.

Delivering world-class cancer care and achieving world-class cancer research requires we continue building upon the foundation MUSC began establishing in 1985 with the creation of the Division of Hematology/Oncology. Many other MUSC cancer programs have been formed since then, and the Hollings Cancer Center, opened in 1993, has realized many synergies from coordinating all of these fine efforts and introducing many new programs, too.

We have made great strides in cancer treatment, research, and education through the careful recruitment of world-renowned cancer treatment specialists and cancer research scientists. In fact, we have grown so much in our first decade that we are now building an adjacent, $40M, seven-story Hollings Cancer Center Expansion Facility to accommodate our anticipated needs for the next decade. I promise the citizens of South Carolina we will untiringly persist in developing the Hollings Cancer Center into the state's best center -- and one of the nation's best centers -- for developing new knowledge of cancer and translating that knowledge into increasingly effective prevention and treatment.
